Qatar Airways gave with one hand in July, and took away with the other. Now it's giving back. Here's what changed, what it means for your Avios stash, and what else is worth your attention today.

Back in July 2026, Qatar Airways' Privilege Club introduced a rule that quietly infuriated a lot of points collectors: you could no longer transfer credit card points into the program and immediately book a flight for a spouse or family member. You had to credit a flight to your own account first - a gatekeeping move that made the program significantly less useful for anyone booking travel for others.

As of September 14, that restriction is gone. Qatar has reversed course, and you can once again transfer Amex, Chase, or other points into Privilege Club and book directly for family members. The reversal is quiet - no big announcement, no fanfare - but it's confirmed and live.

It's not a total free-for-all. Limits on who you can book for remain in place - the reversal specifically addresses the credit-flight-first requirement, not the eligible-recipient rules. So check the current Privilege Club terms before assuming you can book for anyone. But for couples and families who use this program the way most people do, the friction is gone.

Philippine Airlines launched a paid status match today, and at first glance it looks like a niche offer for a niche airline. But here's where it gets interesting: Philippine Airlines is expected to join the oneworld alliance by the end of 2027. Once that happens, the top-tier status you match to today becomes a oneworld Emerald equivalent - which means access to American Airlines Flagship Lounges, even when you're flying domestic coach on AA.

The cost is $349, and the matched status expires in February 2028. That gives you a window - albeit a narrow one - where your Philippine Airlines status is fully live within oneworld. The timing math works like this: you pay now, the alliance join happens sometime before end of 2027, and you get a few months of Flagship Lounge access before the status expires.

This is a speculative play, not a guaranteed win. Philippine Airlines still has to complete its oneworld accession, and you're essentially betting $349 that (a) that happens on schedule and (b) you have AA flights booked during the valid window. If you're a frequent American Airlines flyer who doesn't currently hold elite status anywhere, and you believe the timeline holds, this is a creative way to get lounge access at a fraction of the cost of traditional status.

For most people, $349 for speculative lounge access 12-plus months away is a stretch. But for a specific kind of AA-heavy traveler who wants Flagship access without the flying requirement, this is one of the more creative paths available right now. Eyes open on the timeline risk.

The Chase Ink Business Preferred's 100,000-point welcome bonus is still live. That's one of the best points-per-dollar acquisition rates on any card right now, especially given that Ink points transfer to United, Hyatt, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, British Airways, Singapore Airlines, and more.

The $95 annual fee is low for what you're getting. To put the bonus in perspective: 100,000 Chase points transferred to Hyatt could cover 5-7 nights at a Category 4 property, or transferred to United or Flying Blue, you're looking at multiple business class awards to Europe depending on availability.

There's also a 20% transfer bonus from Chase Ultimate Rewards to Air Canada Aeroplan running through September 30 - in 15 days. If Air Canada is on your radar, transferring from a newly opened Ink card after meeting the minimum spend (or from an existing Chase stash) gets you 120,000 Aeroplan points instead of 100,000. That's a meaningful difference for long-haul redemptions.

The card's value proposition depends almost entirely on consistently using its credits. Miss a quarter and you've effectively raised your net annual fee. KLM's Flying Blue program is running an 80% bonus on purchased miles, and it expires tomorrow - Wednesday, September 16. If you have a specific redemption in mind and you're short on miles, this is a real window. Flying Blue miles are versatile: they price Air France, KLM, and partner awards, and the program is one of the better ones for transatlantic business class redemptions.

Buying miles only makes sense when you have a specific booking in mind at a price you've already confirmed. If you're buying speculatively, that's a different risk calculation. But if you're 20,000 miles short of a business class redemption you've already found space for, an 80% bonus changes the math significantly. The answer is Qpoints. Qatar Airways' Privilege Club uses both Avios (for earning and redemption) and Qpoints (which track status and spending). The two currencies work in tandem - Avios are your redemption currency, while Qpoints determine your tier level.
