💳 Amex Platinum's $600 Hotel Credit Just Got a New Name - and New Rules

Airbnb Luxe Is In, But 2027 Brings a Catch

The Amex Platinum's $600 Hotel Credit is getting a rebrand to the "Lodging Credit" - and with that rename comes a genuinely interesting expansion. Starting now, you can use the credit toward eligible Airbnb Luxe properties, not just traditional hotels. That's a real lifestyle upgrade for cardholders who prefer villa-style stays over hotel rooms.

But here's where you need to pay attention. To use the credit with Airbnb Luxe, the booking must go through Amex Travel (not the Airbnb app directly), it must be prepaid with your Platinum Card, and you need to link your Amex account to an Airbnb account in your name. The property must also be a verified Airbnb Luxe listing - which is a small subset of all Airbnb inventory.

The 2-Night Minimum Starting January 2027

Here's the change that matters more for most cardholders: starting January 1, 2027, the Lodging Credit will require a minimum 2-night stay. Right now, a single night qualifies. If you've been using this credit for one-night stopovers or quick weekend bookings, your window to do that closes at year-end. The Frequent Miler team flagged this as a potential hit to one of the Platinum's best-used perks.

The bottom line

If you have upcoming one-night bookings that qualify, get them booked before December 31, 2026 to beat the 2-night rule. The Airbnb Luxe addition is a nice-to-have, but the 2-night minimum starting in 2027 is the real story here - it quietly shrinks the credit's everyday usability.

🚨 United's 100% Buy-Miles Bonus Closes This Saturday

Double Your MileagePlus Balance Before October 31

United is currently running a 100% bonus on purchased MileagePlus miles - meaning every mile you buy comes with a matching bonus mile, effectively cutting the cost per mile in half. This window closes this Saturday, October 31. If you have a specific redemption in mind and you're short on miles, this is one of the more generous buy-miles offers we've seen from United in a while.

To figure out whether buying makes sense for your specific redemption, run the numbers on what you're targeting. Business class to Europe, for example, can be had for as few as 60,000 United miles one-way on partner airlines - and if you're 20,000 miles short, buying at 100% bonus can absolutely pencil out.

Delta is also running a 50% buy-miles bonus through this Saturday. Lufthansa Miles & More has a 50% bonus closing Saturday too. And JetBlue's TrueBlue program has a 120% bonus running through Thursday, November 5 - the biggest of the current batch by percentage. You can track all of these at once on our buy points promotions tracker - updated daily.

The bottom line

If you've been sitting on a redemption idea and need more miles, this Saturday deadline is real. United at 100% and JetBlue at 120% are the standouts. Don't buy speculatively - buy with a booking target in mind.

🔄 5 Transfer Bonuses Expire This Saturday - Here's Which Ones Matter

Rove Miles Has the Best Offer in the Batch

There's a small pile-up of transfer bonus deadlines arriving this Saturday, October 31, and a few are worth acting on today. The standout is Rove Miles to JAL Mileage Bank at a 50% bonus - Japan Airlines miles are genuinely valuable for business class redemptions to Asia, and a 50% bonus on transfers is exceptional. Rove is also offering 40% to Flying Blue and 35% to Qatar Privilege Club Avios through the same date.

On the Citi side, ThankYou Rewards cardholders have a 35% transfer bonus to Qatar Privilege Club Avios running through Saturday. This is the same Qatar program that's been on a run of partnership expansions lately - and 35% extra Avios on a transfer is meaningful if you're targeting a Qatar-operated flight. You can check Qatar award availability using our Qatar Airways Avios Award Flight Finder.

Flying Blue 25% Bonus Closes Saturday Too

Amex Membership Rewards cardholders have a 25% transfer bonus to Air France/KLM Flying Blue through this Saturday, and a 20% bonus to AeroMexico ClubPremier closing this Friday. Flying Blue regularly has solid business class award space on transatlantic routes, so if you're planning a Europe trip and have Amex points sitting idle, this week is the time to move them. Award Travel Finder has been tracking open Flying Blue business class seats to Paris and Amsterdam if you want to search before transferring.

Transfer bonuses are one of the few places in miles and points where doing nothing literally costs you percentage points on every mile you move.

🏨 Hyatt Points Transfers Are Now Fully Online - With a New Cap

No More Phone Calls to Gift Points

World of Hyatt quietly made a quality-of-life upgrade that's worth knowing about: points transfers between members can now be done entirely online, starting from October 15. Previously, transferring points to another Hyatt member required a phone call - which was a friction point that caught a lot of people off guard when they were trying to pool points for a high-category booking.

The new rules put some guardrails on the feature: you can gift points no more than once per calendar month, and no more than six times per calendar year. You can also receive gifted points no more than once per month and six times annually. The cap on total points you can gift or receive in a calendar year is 500,000 - which is generous enough for most use cases.

The bottom line

If you and a travel partner have been trying to pool Hyatt points for a splurge redemption - a Category 7 Park Hyatt, for example - this is the cleanest way to do it now. Just know the monthly limits apply, so plan the transfer ahead of your booking window opening.

✈️ Air Serbia Is Flying to Miami Starting May 2027

Belgrade to Miami on A330s - A New Option for European Award Routing

Air Serbia is adding Miami as its third US destination starting May 20, 2027, operating the route with Airbus A330s. Belgrade has been talking about launching Miami service for years, and this is now confirmed. For miles enthusiasts, the more interesting question is how this plays out for award routing - Air Serbia is a partner of Etihad Guest, and being able to connect through Belgrade opens up some creative European positioning possibilities.

If you're a Florida-based traveler looking for more options into Eastern Europe, this is worth watching. Cash fares on a new route like this often come in competitively during the first few months of operation - Friday Flight Deals will be tracking this one when fares drop for the launch window next spring.

✈️ Basic Economy Award Tickets Are Here - Read Before You Book

Delta, JetBlue, and Southwest Now Let You Burn Points on Bare-Bones Fares

The Points Guy team flagged something worth watching this week: Delta, JetBlue, and Southwest now all offer basic economy award tickets - letting you book their most restrictive fares using points. The miles cost is lower, which sounds attractive at first glance.

But basic economy means no seat selection, often no checked bags, and very limited change or refund options. If your plans are completely firm and you're chasing the lowest possible miles price, the math can work. But if there's any chance of a date change or cancellation, the savings can evaporate fast in fees or lost miles. As the Points Guy put it: cheap is expensive if your plans change.

The bottom line

Only book a basic economy award if you are 100% certain on dates and don't need bags. Otherwise, the small miles savings isn't worth the flexibility you're giving up - especially on domestic routes where the spread between basic economy and regular economy awards is often just a few thousand miles.

🌎 Trivia Reveal

The answer is Copa ConnectMiles. Citi ThankYou Rewards quietly added Copa as a 1:1 transfer partner, opening up some interesting redemption paths - including Emirates flights with no fuel surcharges. We covered the full breakdown in last week's newsletter if you want the deep dive on the sweet spots.

💬 Quick Question

With five transfer bonuses all closing this Saturday, are you moving any points before the deadline - or letting them ride? Hit reply and tell me which program you're transferring to (and why). I read every response and this one genuinely helps me know what to cover in more depth.

That's it for today. The Amex Platinum lodging credit change and the stacking October 31 deadlines make this a week where doing nothing quietly costs you. Worth a few minutes of action before Saturday.
