Tomorrow morning, a quietly significant change takes effect - and if you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Ink Business Preferred sitting in your wallet, it affects every Hyatt redemption you plan to make.

Quick one before we dive in: starting October 1, the Chase Sapphire Preferred's transfer ratio to World of Hyatt drops. But which card keeps the original 1:1 ratio to Hyatt?

Starting October 1, Chase Ultimate Rewards transferred from the Sapphire Preferred or Ink Business Preferred will convert to Hyatt at a 4:3 ratio instead of the original 1:1. That means if you transfer 10,000 Chase points today, you get 10,000 Hyatt points. Tomorrow, you transfer 10,000 Chase points and get 7,500 Hyatt points. That's a 25% haircut - or looked at from the other direction, you now need 33% more Chase points to hit the same Hyatt award price.

TravelPointsFamily ran the math on this clearly: a Hyatt stay costing 100,000 points goes from requiring 100,000 Chase points to requiring 134,000 Chase points (since Chase only transfers in 1,000-point increments). That extra 34,000 points is real money - or real spending you have to put on your card.

Here's the critical detail: the Chase Sapphire Reserve is NOT affected. It keeps the 1:1 ratio to Hyatt. Bilt also keeps 1:1. So if you're holding points on a Preferred or Ink Preferred and have a household member with a Sapphire Reserve, you can transfer those points between accounts (same household) before moving to Hyatt. That workaround keeps its full value - but it only works if you have the right card in the house.

If you have a Hyatt stay planned for the next 12 months, transfer your Chase points today at 1:1. Book something refundable to lock in the points - stays are bookable out through October 2027. Don't speculatively dump your entire Chase balance into Hyatt, but if you have a specific redemption in mind, tonight is the deadline.

The 30% transfer bonus from Capital One miles to Japan Airlines Mileage Bank expires this Wednesday, September 30. JAL is one of the most underused redemption sweet spots in the entire program - their partner awards on American Airlines metal are frequently available and price well compared to booking directly through AAdvantage. If you've been sitting on Capital One miles and have a Japan or North America itinerary in mind, this bonus is worth moving fast on.

At the same time, a 20% transfer bonus from Chase Ultimate Rewards to Air Canada Aeroplan also expires Wednesday. Aeroplan is one of the most flexible Star Alliance programs out there - it prices well for United flights, and it connects to a huge global network without fuel surcharges. We covered Aeroplan's value in depth when the Chase Aeroplan card fee increase landed earlier this year. If you're building an Aeroplan balance for a premium cabin redemption, this 20% bonus is free inventory you shouldn't leave on the table.

Rakuten quietly added Bank of America cards to its portal, and the Travel Rewards card is paying $375 back through the portal right now, plus an additional $250 after $1,000 in spend on the card's own standard welcome offer. That's a combined $625 for a card that earns 1.5x points on everything. The Customized Cash and Unlimited cards are both sitting at $150 as of this morning - Rakuten's real-time payouts on this portal move around during the day, so double-check the live rate before you apply.

The reason this matters for miles and points people: Rakuten pays out in Amex Membership Rewards if you've connected your account for that option. If you're already in the Amex ecosystem and you're adding cards to your setup, going through Rakuten to capture a signup bonus is free points stacking. Worth checking whether any of your recent or upcoming card applications qualify.

If a Bank of America card is on your radar, applying through Rakuten right now is worth doing - the $375 Travel Rewards offer is the headline number today. Make sure your Rakuten account is set to Amex MR payouts if that's your preferred currency.

JetBlue is running a 120% bonus on purchased TrueBlue points, and it expires this Thursday, October 1 - the same day the Chase-Hyatt ratio changes. JetBlue points are worth roughly 1.3-1.5 cents each on domestic routes and Mint business class, which means a 120% purchase bonus gets you reasonably close to break-even on buy value before you factor in any specific redemption.
